![]() ![]() It's also not a Kanto legendary so its inclusion in the core Kanto plot felt a bit off. ![]() It's always nice to involve more legendary Pokemon into the story, but the way it was weaved in was not particularly clever and once again did not contribute much more to the plot. I have mixed feelings about the role of Deoxys in the story. I think FireRed Rocket Edition did a MUCH better job creating a motive for Giovanni/Team Rocket that actually makes sense, improving what's already canon without unnecessary/silly alterations. Giovanni's motives were expanded upon, but honestly it just felt silly and half baked (even for a Pokemon game). In fact, I still didn't feel like most of the plot holes from FRLG were filled in by Dark Violet. Although I enjoyed the additional Team Rocket encounters, most of them didn't really contribute much more to the plot. The HGSS graphics were a much welcomed improvement over those of FRLG, and the new music was very enjoyable to listen to and made the battles feel more intense. The addition of Silver was a nice touch, giving him a bit of a backstory for his debut in GSC. All of these locations definitely make sense for Team Rocket encounters and should have been added to the original FRLG. Anne, the Cinnabar Mansion, and the Cerulean Cave. Moon, the Celadon Game Corner, the Lavender Tower, and the Silph Company, you also battle them at the Pewter Fossil Museum, the S.S. Most of the extra Team Rocket run-ins are cool. Other than the addition of the new characters, the story differences mainly lie in more dealings with Team Rocket and an expansion of their motives. ![]() Silver (the rival character from GSC) is in the plot as Giovanni's son (which I believe became canon many years after the release of GSC), but his name in this game is "Kamon." Archer and Ariana, the Rocket admins from HGSS, are also in the game. However, a few new characters are introduced: in addition to your rival Blue, you also have a female rival Green. In terms of story, it is largely the same as the original FRLG. ![]() Notably, it is missing the Fairy type, reusable TM's, and the modern EXP share (though I think this may be due to development starting before XY were released). There is also new music in the overworld and during battles. The game (a GBA hack) boasts improved graphics (HGSS Kanto overworld and Pokemon sprites), the physical/special split, and obtainable Pokemon through gen 4. Having heard this was many peoples' definitive Kanto experience, I was excited to play Pokemon Dark Violet. ![]()
